The term “upgrade” in this category may include performance-oriented upgrades, cost-oriented conversions, and replacement-oriented retrofits, provided that the printer’s principal control platform can still be retained.
Typical projects may involve printers currently using XP600, DX5, DX7, TX800, 4720, 5113, or other printheads. Depending on the printer, application, and purpose of the retrofit, the target configuration may include a supported XP600-based platform, Epson I1600, Epson I3200, or another compatible printhead platform.
For example, an older printer may be evaluated for conversion to I1600 or I3200 to improve production capability. In other cases, a printer may be converted to an XP600-based configuration to reduce replacement cost, simplify maintenance, restore an older machine, or meet moderate production requirements.
The presence of a particular original or target printhead does not by itself confirm that the existing control system can be retained. The current control platform must be able to support the target printhead’s driving requirements, channel configuration, waveform and firmware requirements, printhead quantity, colour arrangement, communication interface, voltage, power requirements, printing mode, and intended ink type.
For this type of retrofit, the principal control platform remains in use, while selected printhead-related components may be replaced, added, reprogrammed, or updated. Depending on the printer configuration, the kit may include a compatible head board, printhead driver board, carriage board, adapter board, interface module, firmware or software update, printhead cables, communication cables, power or signal adapters, mounting components, and other necessary parts.
Mechanical compatibility must also be assessed, including the printhead dimensions, mounting position, carriage space, nozzle-to-media distance, ink inlet arrangement, capping position, cleaning system, cable routing, and installation dimensions.
If the main control platform, motion-control architecture, or core control software must be replaced, the project should be classified as a Complete Control System Upgrade Kit rather than an upgrade for an existing control system.
Before ordering, please provide the printer brand and model, existing printhead, intended target printhead, number of printheads, colour configuration, ink type, printing width, control system brand, main board and head board models, software and firmware versions, and clear photos of the control boards, connectors, wiring, carriage, printhead mounting area, ink system, and printer nameplate.
Each printer must be assessed individually. The components that can remain in service and the final kit configuration will be confirmed only after technical compatibility assessment.
